Primosten
Just 28 km distant from Sibenik,
in old scripts mentioned as Caputa Cista ("bared head"), Primosten
under that name is found first time in documents from 1564. year. By beginning
an island, it was protected from Turkish invasion by stone walls with towers,
and connection to the land was a mobile bridge. So the name comes from
"primostiti" - Croatian for "bridged over").
After Turkish withdrawal bridge was replaced with dike and then Primosten
becomes peninsula. Surrounded by 7 islands, Primosten is special gift of
nature that leaves no one indifferent.
Stone houses, churches and narrow streets are perfect harmony of past and
present time. In spite of heritage and reaches of modern civilisation
Primosten has even today kept its atmosphere and all architectural signs of
mediaeval Mediterranean fishermen's place.
From sometime a fisherman's place Primosten has developed to significant
tourist destination. You can find accommodation in hotels and private
apartments; also there are many restaurants, café bars where you can enjoy in
healthy Mediterranean food with famous red wine Babic.
Sights of wine stone cells on the nearest hills are so unique sight that its
pictures have found place even in building of United Nations in New York as centuries-old evidence that man's arm can engraft even the most roughness
landscape.
Campers can find in Primosten theirs spot. Beside many private auto-camps, 3 km from Primosten there is an auto-camp "Adriatic" with modern contents and
infrastructure for this kind of holiday.
Every day trips to Sibenik, to background and archipelago of Sibenik with
rich cultural and entertaining program will offer everyone something for
himself and then put a final impression for the place that lives dynamic
during whole season.
